  • at
  • to
  • me
  • it
  • look
  • up
  • my
  • will
  • have

Comprehension Strategy: This week we worked on retelling a story recalling what happened in the beginning, middle, and end of the story. To start the week off we read the story "We're Going on a Leaf Hunt". We used picture cards and put them in order from beginning, middle, and end. Later in the week we used our Retell Poster to recall characters, setting and beginning, middle, and end. When reading at home, see if your child can recall these parts of the story.

Accuracy: This week we learned about syllables. A syllable is the number of times you hear a vowel in a word. We used Halloween and bubblegum words to clap the syllables we heard in words this week.

This week in math we reviewed counting objects out and recognizing numbers. To practice recognizing numbers we played SWAT IT! I call out a number and they have to find the number quickly and hit it with the fly swatter.

Content: This week we learned all about the season fall. We read stories and discussed the things we see, taste, smell, touch, and hear in the fall. We also finished the week with a nature walk. We walked outside and put a check mark next to everything we found outside.

On Thursday we celebrated the 50th day of school! We had so much fun dressing up like we were from the 1950's and learning about the difference from then to now. We started the day with a picture sort. We talked about what things were like in the 1950's from clothing, to music, and diners. We sorted into then and now. Then we all got a piece of bubblegum and practiced blowing bubbles. There were 5 of us that could blow a bubble and the rest of us are still trying! In the afternoon we used stickers to count to 50, had our very own Sock Hop learning the different dance moves from the 50's and enjoyed ice cream floats! We had SO MUCH FUN!

SEL (Social Emotional Learning): Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

This week we learned about apologizing. Apologizing means that we say sorry when we hurt someone. That can mean we hurt their feelings or physically hurt them. We read stories and watched how characters apologized, and also practiced apologizing using a 4 step apology using made up examples. Check out what a 4 step apology looks like!
