Comprehension Strategy: This week we learned about Good Fit books. Good fit books are books that simply are a good book for you. In kindergarten a chapter book who not be a good fit book, because we do not know that many words and there are no pictures to read. We talk about needing to find books that interest us, that we can comprehend, and ones that we know some/most of the words (when we get into reading level books).

To help explain what a good fit book was we used pictures of shoes and short stories to better understand. I read the story and the kiddo with those pair of shoes stood up and made the match. We talked about why we wouldn't wear our slippers to go horse back riding and why we wouldn't wear sandals to build a snowman. Each book that we choose should be right for us, and that will look different as the year goes on. This week after we learned what a good fit book was we then got to choose 2 books that we wanted to add to our book box. We had so much fun reading these new books that we were able to choose!

Accuracy: This week we continued to learn about letters and the sounds they make. We were able to use the ipad app ABC Magic 1 to match pictures with the appropriate beginning sound. When we are ready to introduce ipads for indepedent work this will be one of the first apps kids will work with.

Writing: This week we worked on forming the following letters and completed crafts for each one. We are still working on holding our pencils correctly, so don't forget to sing that song at home to help students remember the correct way to hold their pencil! Take a look at the letters that we worked on!

Monday: Letter Cc, then colored a Cc page to look like chocolate chip cookies while eating chocolate chips!

Tuesday: Letter Dd, then decorated Dd's to put on a yarn necklace.

Wednesday: Letter Ee, then students created Ellie the Elephant with construction paper.

Thursday: Letter Ff and then go to paint the letter Ff with forks!

Friday: Letter Gg and then colored a goldfish while eating some too!

Math: This week we worked on counting. We practiced counting objects using 1:1 correspondence. We practice taking each object and putting it in a pile as we count to make sure we don't count it again. Then we did Counting Cat for the first time. This is where we sit in a circle and pass The Cat in the Hat around the circle. Each kiddo says a number and we continue counting as high as we can. This 9 weeks students are expected to be able to count to 25. I encourage kiddos to count wherever they are; in the bathtub, in the car, at sporting events, EVERYWHERE!

Vocabulary: Nine and Ten. We finished up our number words and showed ways to make each number by drawing a picture, showing it on a tens frame, drawing dice, and writing the number and number word.

Content: This week we spent lots of time with our names. We had fun activities all week that had us reviewing our names and working with the letters in our names. On Monday we counted the letters in our names and added each of our names to our Word Wall. This is where all of our sight words are for the entire school year.
