Fall

Poem: I Have, You Have
Sight Words: have, will

Reading: This week we did a lot of review. We discussed what Daily 5 Reading should look like and started by making our Read to Self I-chart. Each day we practiced building stamina and we continued to read longer and longer!

We worked on beginning and ending sounds. We used picture cards and wrote down the beginning and ending sound next to each card.

We also reviewed the characters and setting within a story. After reading a story we recalled where the characters are (setting) and who the story was about (characters).

Our word family this week was -ed. We watched a short video and brainstormed more words that had the -ed ending.

Writing: This week we learned how to create a picture using shapes and lines. We practiced this skill as a whole class using dry erase boards before returning to our tables to apply it in our writing folders. We also learned how to label our pictures with beginning and ending sounds. Students watched as Mrs. Keller modeled the right way to draw a picture and label.

Math: This week we made our Math by Myself I-Chart. After discussing the expectations of working during math, we practiced writing and representing numbers while building stamina.

Content: This week we learned about fall and leaves. We made a chart at the beginning of the week with characteristics of fall and then we went on a leaf hunt. With our leaves, we did a leaf investigation. We then ended the week with our very first STEM activity. Students were encouraged to use the materials given to them (29 candy pumpkins and 30 toothpicks) to construct the tallest tower. They worked in groups of 3 and together decided the best plan to get their tower to stand the tallest. Before starting we discussed the expectations when doing a STEM activity and what it would look like and sound like.

Grandparents Day: We had so much fun with our grandparents Wednesday afternoon. The afternoon was filled with laughter and and smiles as we made candy necklaces, read stories, played games, ate cookies and more!
