Ocean

Poem: Lemonade

Reading: This week we read lots of ocean themed stories and reviewed many comprehension strategies including main idea and key details, author's purpose, and retelling the story.

Vocabulary: This week we read a story called, "Dear Mr. Blueberry". It is a fun story about a little girl who writes letters to her teacher about a whale in her pond. The words we learned and added to our expanded vocabulary chart were information, perhaps, pleased, pond, spurt, and travel.

iPads: This week students explored with the app called Explorium Ocean for Kids. Students were able to click on warning symbols to learn about underwater ocean animals and plants. The second round students used pebble go to research information about their favorite ocean animal. Students then had the choice to use popplet or pic collage to record at least 4 facts about their animal.

Writing: This week we did a variety of end of the school year writing crafts. We completed our graduation craft where we wrote one thing we learned while in kindergarten. Then we made our summer bucket list craft. We wrote about a few things that we plan to do over the summer months.

Math: This week we learned about money. We specifically took time to learn about coins like the penny, nickel, dime, and quarter. We were able to explore with plastic coins to identify which coin was which. We also talked about how many of one coin would equal another coin. For example 5 pennies would be the same as 1 nickel.

Vocabulary: Our words this week were penny, nickel, dime, and quarter. We explained how much each coin was worth as we drew a picture in our math journal.

iPads: This week students were able to pair with a partner and play Math Fight. Math Fight is an app that is played with an opponent as each student practices addition and subtraction facts. The object is the click the correct answer first to earn 10 points before the other person. If you select the wrong answer you lose a point, if you chose the correct answer first you earn a point. They had so much fun!

End of the Year Fun:
We have had a lot of fun things planned this week that we were able to participate in. We had the talent show where we watched a lot of classmates show off talents that they have. We also had our behavior celebration from Ronald McDonald where we learned about being a leader. He was very animated and kept the kids engaged every second! Then we had Colts Day. We were unable to participate however we were able to go through a bounce house obstacle course and practice our football throwing skills with a blow up football toss.
